We’re stating the obvious early, according to Forbes, travel will be 40% cheaper this fall than in peak summer. For those of us who did not take, or get, the opportunity to travel during the summer, chances are you’ll be saving before you even get on the plane.
Lower temperatures, less packed airports, and more affordable lodging during the fall might just be enough to lure you away for a weekend getaway. However, how can you truly capitalize on these falling rates? The key is in knowing when and how to plan ahead (but not too far):
Flights Will Definitely Be Cheaper – Particularly on Certain Days
From August to October, and especially after labor day, packing up a bag and heading out of town for a while will be more affordable for domestic travel. If you’re lucky, you can even get an international deal for cheap. The trick, as simple as it may sound, is to purchase your ticket ahead of time.
Typically, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday is the cheapest day to fly. If you can structure your travel schedule around these days, these will likely be the best days to fly. both for a lower cost and a less hectic airport experience.
If you can bear it, for even more savings, early morning or late-night flights can result in you getting to your dream destination or back home with less sleep, but a few extra dollars in your pocket. Whatever you do, avoid last-minute bookings and holiday travel.

Fewer People, Lower Temperatures, More Savings
With this reduction in the number of vacationers, hotels, resorts, natural and entertainment parks, and landmarks cut their prices too. If you love avoiding crowds or hate waiting in lines or on waitlists, planning your trip while everyone else is planning their work week will reward you.
As an added bonus, if you live somewhere, that does not have a “true fall,” your chance to take a nature walk or experience different weather is open for you. Without the chilling cold that winter may bring, and just getting past the summer heat, you can still enjoy beaches or opt for a different landscape altogether. Cities like Denver, New York, or even Boston can be transformed by their natural landscapes.
Use websites like Hopper or even Google flights to track prices and lock down the ticket that really catches your eye. Somewhere, in particular, you want to travel to?
